Removal of Titanium Implants
The removal of titanium implants in biological dentistry is performed to improve the patient’s overall health, particularly when adverse reactions or systemic complications arise.
With titanium implants, individuals with allergies or intolerances may experience adverse reactions, ranging from local irritation to more severe systemic responses. In addition, the “antenna effect” refers to how titanium implants can interact with electromagnetic signals, such as those from 3G and 4G mobile networks. This interaction may result in heating of the surrounding bone tissue, potentially causing discomfort and even compromising the long-term integrity of the implant and the patient’s overall health.
Recent studies have shown that 80% of patients with titanium implants developed gum inflammation within a five-year period. This inflammation not only impacts oral health but may also have broader implications for general health.
Bacteria present in inflamed gums can enter the bloodstream and reach the heart, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. For this reason, at MERIDIAN Biohealth, under our biological dentistry approach, we emphasize the importance of evaluating not only the biocompatibility of materials used, but also their potential impact on the patient’s long-term systemic health.

“In Spain, it is estimated that between 10% and 20% of the population presents some form of allergy to metals used in dentistry.”
Treatment Process
Titanium Implant Extraction
The metal implant is carefully removed using techniques that minimize trauma to the surrounding soft and hard tissues. Special attention is given to avoid site contamination and preserve the bone.
Detoxification and Site Preparation
The area is detoxified to eliminate any remaining residue or toxins. This may include site irrigation and supportive therapies such as Ozone Therapy, to promote healing.
Placement of the Ceramic Implant
Once the site is properly prepared and healed, the new ceramic implant is placed. This material is highly biocompatible and chosen to minimize the risk of adverse reactions.
Immediate Crown Loading
On the same day, a dental prosthesis is placed over the ceramic implant, allowing for immediate aesthetic restoration.
Advantages
Painless
Postoperative recovery is usually experienced without pain or swelling, thanks to the surgical protocol used and the supporting medical treatment.
Biocompatibility
Ceramic implants are highly biocompatible, minimizing the risk of allergic reactions or intolerances and promoting optimal integration with the tissues. Being metal– free, these implants do not affect the immune system.
Superior Aesthetics
Their natural white color provides a more aesthetic appearance, closely resembling natural teeth, which enhances patient confidence and satisfaction.
Better Health
The smooth surface of ceramic implants makes it harder for plaque and bacteria to accumulate, reducing the risk of peri-implant infections and promoting better oral health in the long term.
